Editorial policy
Nalanda is built on a simple discipline: write first from sources, then check the writing separately before it is treated as settled. This page sets out that process in full.
How entries are written
Every entry is written from first principles, not paraphrased from a single existing summary. Research draws on primary sources where they exist, together with reputable secondary material used to corroborate and extend them. A claim resting on only one source is treated as provisional, not settled.
How entries are verified
Writing and verification are two separate passes, run adversarially. After an entry is drafted, it goes through a separate verification pass that checks its factual claims against sources, independent of the process that wrote it.
Where a check surfaces a clear, confirmed error, the entry is corrected. Where a check raises doubt about a claim but cannot confirm what the correct version should be, the claim is dropped rather than left in as an unverified assertion. A diagnosis, that something might be wrong, is trusted. An unconfirmed specific fix is not asserted as fact in its place.
This is a standing policy, not a claim that every entry currently in Nalanda has already been through it. Some of the earliest entries predate this process. They are being worked through and brought up to the current standard on an ongoing basis.
How sacred-texts entries are sourced
Entries built from an original text and its translations, such as an entry drawing on the Ashtavakra Gita, use original-language text and translations only from authoritative, public-domain, or openly-licensed editions, with the specific source recorded on the entry itself.
Commentary and plain-language explanation in these entries are written original to Nalanda. They are not copied or adapted from another commentary.
How corrections can be requested
If a claim in an entry looks wrong, or a source looks misattributed, the way to report it is the contact page.
A statement on integrity
Nalanda does not use fake or invented citations. It carries no undisclosed sponsored content. No entry, and no ranking or placement of an entry, is paid for.
